Reading Notes | Mahabharata B

I chose to continue my reading notes for part B the same way I wrote them for A. I like to write out bulletpoint lists because it is easier to refer to when I'm doing the storytelling activities! I jumped around the PDE Mahabharata version and listed the stories I felt were most important and easy to write about.

The House of Fire
-Vidura, brother of Pandu and Dhritarashtra
-this was the perfect brother, because of his mother, he was not fit to become king
-He warns the Pandavas about the trap created in the house
-The Pandavas then set off the fire and everyone thinks they died... they escaped to forrest

Bhima and Hidimbi
-Sister of the rakshasi that Bhima kills
-The two fall in love - happy love!
-They have a son = Ghatotkacha

Baka
-Asura that Bhima battles
-Everyone is suprised b/c Bhima is disguised as a Brahmin

Birth of Draupadi
-The pandavas come out of hiding but remain disguised for the swayamwara
-Krishna recognizes that the brahmins are actually the Pandavas in disguise - oh no

Draupadi's Swayamwara
-Arjuna successfully wins her as his wife

Wife of Five Pandavas
-Due to a request from Kunti, the brothers must "share" what they got that day... aka Draupadi
-This links back to her first life as Nalayani

(Wive of five husbands. Web Source: Wikipedia).

Indraprastha
-Yudhishthira becomes a king

Arjuna and Ulupi
-Arjuna breaks the rules and is sent into exile
-There he marries Ulupi and Subhadra
