-New king in Hastinapura named Vichitraviyra.
-Had two sons: Dhritarashtra; blind, and Pandu; becomes king
-Pandu has 5 sons
-Pandu’s sons called Pandavas, sons of gods
-Dhritarashtra becomes king when Pandu dies and his 100 sons grow up with Pandavas
-Pandavas’ teacher favors them and Dhritarashtra’s son, Duryodhana, is jealous.
-Plans to kill Pandavas and their mother.
-Pandavas escape, Duryodhana thinks they died.

7.
-Pandavas flee into forest, monster Hidimba and his sister plan to eat them in their sleep
-Sister monster, Hidimbi, falls in love with Bhima and warns about brother
-Bhima kills brother and goes with Hidimbi but returns to family
-Pandavas in village attacked by Baka, a demon
-Bhima kills Baka and Pandavas go to the next town

8.
-Draupadi is a girl everyone wants and her father is giving her away in a contest
-Contest is archery and Karna is set to win. Draupadi doesn’t want him
-Arjuna, a Pandava, wins the contest and angers the suitors
-A fight breaks out but ends and Arjuna leads Draupadi away
-Kunti says to share whatever Arjuna has gotten and cannot take back words
-All 5 brothers marry Draupadi

9.
-Duryodhana finds out that Pandavas are still alive
-Bhishma urges them to make peace
- King Dhritarashtra gives Pandavas half his kingdom
-Arjuna goes into exile for entering Draupadi’s room with Yudhishthira in there
-Arjuna marries a water-nymph named Ulupi in the forest.
-Agni, the fire god, tells Arjuna to burn the forest down and he does. Indra arrives and pours rain down to save the nagas.

10.
-Arjuna slays all of the nagas except Maya
-He goes to Dwrka and marries Subhadra, the sister of Krishna
-They go back to Indraprastha and build a palace for the Pandavas
- Yudhishthira declares himself emperor but Krishna tells him that he has to kill King Jarasandha
-Bhima goes to kill King Jarasandha and frees the captive kings from him

11.
- Duryodhana is still jealous and his uncles tries to help him get revenge by exploiting Yudhishthira’s gambling.
- Yudhishthira loses everything, brothers, himself, and his wife
- Dhritarashtra grants Draupadi a boon and frees Yudhishthira and his brothers.
- Duryodhana arranges another gambling match and Yudhishthira loses and the Pandavas go into exile.

12.
-Crowds follow them into exile and the sun-god gives them a pot to supply endless food.
-Arjuna goes to find weapons and finds his father in disguise and Shiva in disguise as a hunter. Shiva gives him golden armor.
-Bhima is attacked in a cave by a snake. Yudhishthira answers the snake’s questions and the snake turns into a human, King Nahusha, who was cursed until someone answered his questions.
