Reading Notes Week 12: More Jataka Tales B
The Elephant Girly-Face
Main Characters: Girly-Face, keeper of the elephants, robbers, king, wise man
Plot: Girly-Face, the elephant, was a male elephant who was sweet and looked kind. Over the years, everyone assumed he would never hurt a fly. One night, Girly-Face heard robbers outside of his house that exclaimed how they cannot be good even for one minute, and that they should kill anyone awake in the house they were robbing. Because of that conversation, Girly-Face decided he was sick of being nice. The next morning, he killed the keeper. Another keeper ran in to see what happened and was killed as well. The king heard of this uproar and sent a wise man who found nothing to be wrong with him. He asked around to see if anyone may have influenced this, and that is when he heard about the robbers. The wise man decided to send good people to talk around the elephant and this changed Girly-Face back into the sweet elephant he was.
